Magnolia grandiflora Kay Parris

Kay Parris Magnolia

Considered one of the best evergreen magnolias, Kay Parris is a relative newcomer. Believed to be a cross between Little Gem and Bracken's Brown Beauty, this small tree or multi-stemmed large shrub has glossy, medium-green leaves with wavy leaf margins. This selection has a deep orange-brown, almost velvet-like underside to its leaves. The extremely fragrant flowers are a bit smaller than the standard Southern magnolia and appear from late May to late September.

Southern magnolia provides nesting sites, cover for wildlife, food for caterpillars, and the seeds are eaten by birds and small mammals. The fragrant flowers attract pollinators.

At 20' tall and 10' wide, its compact, upright growth habit makes it an exceptional medium-sized, evergreen tree for the smaller yard.
