Crataegus viridis

Winter King Hawthorn

White flowers with yellow anthers bloom in clusters in May and are followed by bright red clusters of 1/2" fruit in fall. The handsome fruit persists through winter. The habit is rounded with a vase-shaped branching structure and attractive bark. Lustrous medium dark green foliage changes to purple and scarlet in fall.

Winter King provides nesting sites for birds, pollen and nectar, and berries for birds.

Can be used as a specimen tree or to soften the lines of a building. Thorns can be a problem if considering street tree use.
