Platanus x acerifolia Bloodgood

Bloodgood Sycamore (Bloodgood London Planetree)

Bloodgood was selected because it has greater resistance to anthracnose than the species. It tolerates compacted soil, heat, drought and severe pruning. The London Planetree is pyramidal in youth developing into an open, wide-spreading tree with massive branches. The cream, olive, and light brown bark is quite handsome and distinctive in winter.

Medium green leaves grow 8-10" wide and turn yellow-brown in fall. The trunks can reach 10' in diameter. Non-showy flowers produce fruits that are 1" diameter round balls.

Many songbirds eat the seeds.

These big trees are best suited to open areas in parks, golf courses, and large open spaces. Withstands air pollution and is heavily planted in many European cities.
