Fothergilla 'Mount Airy'
Mt. Airy Fothergilla
This multi-season native shrub has white, honey-scented, bottle-brush-type flowers. At 1.5" - 2" long, Mt. Airy's flowers are larger than typical and quite showy. Plants bloom April - May and last three to four weeks. Dr. Michael Dirr selected this variety from Mt. Airy Arboretum in Ohio for dark blue-green foliage, outstanding yellow-orange fall colors, abundant flowers, vigor, and more upright habit.
Flowers attract pollinators and the plants provide shelter for wildlife.
Plants grow 5-6' tall and tend to sucker. Can be used for a colorful hedge, in a shrub border, for massing, or in foundation plantings.
- Deciduous, native shrub with three-season interest
