Cercis canadensis 'Merlot'
Dark purple foliage that lasts into summer providing a dramatic impact in the landscape. Grows best in the sun.
In early spring, masses of purplish-pink flowers attract early-season pollinators looking for nectar and pollen. Flowering occurs before the leaves emerge. A member of the legume family, the pea-like flowers are followed by brown seed pods that resemble pea pods.
Fall foliage is usually a good yellow.
Redbuds are smaller trees with nearly flat or rounded crowns often found growing beneath taller trees. Use as a focal point, in groups or along woodland edges.
