Gelsemium sempervirens

Carolina Jessamine

This native twining vine has sweetly scented, canary-yellow flowers and glossy evergreen foliage. The vine is very showy from February to May, when it is in flower. The evergreen foliage generally turns bronze in winter.

With multiple uses, Carolina jessamine is frequently used on mailboxes, fences, downspouts, trellises, and on the ground. It is beautiful in the woods scrambling up small trees like dogwood.

Provides shelter for songbirds and nectar/pollen for pollinators.
