Selected at Swarthmore College for brilliant reddish-purple fall foliage and 6" long flower racemes. The flowers are slightly fragrant and attract pollinators. Plants retain leaves well into winter. Shiny red stems are attractive after the leaves drop.
Plants will spread by suckers in moist soil and make a fine addition to shrub borders, woodland gardens, and naturalized areas.
