Illicium floridanum 'Miss Scarlet®'

Miss Scarlet® Anise

Selected for it's compact size, this native evergreen shrub is ideal for shady moist areas in the garden, shrub border, or woodland garden. While the species grows 6-10' tall or larger, Miss Scarlett(R) stays 4-6' tall and 3-4' wide. In spring, strappy, star-shaped, crimson-red flowers adorn the plant. The anise-scented foliage is quite fragrant.

Plants will eventually spread by suckers which can be cut away or left to spread. This is a good choice for moist to wet soil providing nesting sites for birds and cover for wildlife. Deer resistant.

  • Dense, compact habit
